Next October (19-23)I will be in Podebrady, Czech Republic. We are 9 participants, 7 ladies and 2 males. Concerning countries, there is Turkey (2), UK(2), Italy, Finland, Slovenia, Spain, Lithuania.The subject: "Schools and communities against
crime and misbehaviour".WHY? Misbehaviour at schools and in communities tends to escalate worldwide and we want to find ways of reducing the pathological behaviour of children and teenagers. We would like to share positive experience resulting from traditional after-school activities, monitor behaviour of the target group and check the optimal activities as tools against anti-social behaviour at home, schools
and in the community.
We are going to talk about the problems we have to solve in our schools, or in our town, municipality and what we do to improve the behaviour of the troublemakers (social programmes, projects etc).

It is a historical town, once a royal town, and also a spa centre.
I am looking forward to visiting this country and enjoy as much as the other visits!!!

The History of the HolidaySt. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.

On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink, and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

The First Parade

The first St. Patrick's Day parade took place not in Ireland, but in the United States. Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City on March 17, 1762. Along with their music, the parade helped the soldiers to reconnect with their Irish roots, as well as fellow Irishmen serving in the English army.

Over the next thirty-five years, Irish patriotism among American immigrants flourished, prompting the rise of so-called "Irish Aid" societies, like the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the Hibernian Society. Each group would hold annual parades featuring bagpipes (which actually first became popular in the Scottish and British armies) and drums.

In 1848, several New York Irish aid societies decided to unite their parades to form one New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade. Today, that parade is the world 's oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States, with over 150,000 participants.

Next week I am going to visit Romania, to take part in a studio visit: "All different, all equal. The same opportunities in education for all pupils". I am going to work with participants from countries like United Kingdom, France, Italy and Ireland.

I hope to enjoy a lot and to bring new experiences and ideas.

When time is recorded, it is so beautiful that we try to concentrate everything just in the moment in which the camera is present.

What happens before or after, it doesn´t matter..... It is time of a completely new experience. There are not surprises , everything is taken into account in the same way.

My father, when he was very young, looked like this man (wearing black glasses because he doesn´t have blue eyes !!). It is very funny for me to see the photos of that time.....

Now Paul has completed chemotherapy for lung cancer and told his family that he does not want to spend his last days in a hospital and wants to be at home. Brave man!!!!

I think that Paul is doing well and I hope his family is with him and supporting him in his decisions. He knows that he will never die because there are a lot of people who will always remember him.

For a man who has given so much, to so many, so self-lessly, for so long, the least we can all do is to respect his wishes.

We love you Paul, stay strong.

A little bird was flying for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field.While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the cow dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actlually thawing hm out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon he began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the dung and promptly dug him out and ate him.

MORAL:

1. NOT EVERYBODY WHO DROPS SHIT ON YOU IS YOUR ENEMY.

THE BLIND MEN AND THE ELEPHANT

There are various versions of the story of the blind men and the elephant. The blind men and the elephant is a legend that appears in different cultures - notably China, Africa and India - and the tale dates back thousands of years. Some versions of the story feature three blind men, others five or six, but the message is always the same. Here’s a story of the six blind men and the elephant:

"Six blind men were discussing exactly what they believed an elephant to be, since each had heard how strange the creature was, yet none had ever seen one before. So the blind men agreed to find an elephant and discover what the animal was really like.

It didn’t take the blind men long to find an elephant at a nearby market. The first blind man approached the beast and felt the animal’s firm flat side. “It seems to me that the elephant is just like a wall,” he said to his friends.

The second blind man reached out and touched one of the elephant’s tusks. “No, this is round and smooth and sharp - the elephant is like a spear.”

Intrigued, the third blind man stepped up to the elephant and touched its trunk. “Well, I can’t agree with either of you; I feel a squirming writhing thing - surely the elephant is just like a snake.”

The fourth blind man was of course by now quite puzzled. So he reached out, and felt the elephant’s leg. “You are all talking complete nonsense,” he said, “because clearly the elephant is just like a tree.”

Utterly confused, the fifth blind man stepped forward and grabbed one of the elephant’s ears. “You must all be mad - an elephant is exactly like a fan.”

Each of them was concerned only with their own idea. None of them had the full picture, and none could see any of the other’s point of view. Each man saw the elephant as something quite different, and while in part each blind man was right, none was wholly correct.
There is never just one way to look at something - there are always different perspectives, meanings, and perceptions, depending on who is looking.

Here you have some photos of these two people: Olivier and Isabelle, who are travelling around the world.They are creating a tale about "Hope" with students of different schools and different countries like Europe, Africa, America, Oceania, Asia.

"Lisa is a young girl from Alsace (a French region) who heard a story from the Old of the village called "Kitaï", the secret of happiness.
What is exactly Kitaï. a fabulous animal, an hidden and secret place or a mysterious creature?
Intrigued, she decides to leave her village, going with her grandfather. She leaves her country and travel around the world to find Kitaï.
Each meeting of people will bring her a help or a sign in her quest".

a) THE TALE.

Advises to write the chapter about Lisa and the search of "Kitaï" with the students:
1. One or two pages.
2.It is a story wiy the dreams, the hopes in life.
3. Lisa learns things about the countries she visits (history, culture, animals,...).

I can tell you that she is from Edinburgh (The capital of Scotland in Great Britain) and she is very happy of being here.She has worked in a primary school so this is a new experience for her.

Mogwai are a Scottish band from Glasgow, United Kingdom. Mogwai has since become one of the most influential and best known names in post-rock.

People from Belgium, England, France, Spain, Hungary, Germany,Poland ,Romania, Slovenia, The Czech Republic and Turkey will meet in Stord (SUNNHORDLAND) to talk about each system of education in each country.
The ARION participants will present a certain topic/area/challenge they are facing in their daily work. Examples : anti bullying schemes, ICT, refresher courses for teachers , how to deal with pupils with social problems, integration of handicapped children etc. We have to bring with us information about our schoolsystems to be handed out to the other participants.

We will visit different primary and secondary schools in Stord.

Of course we will visit Norway and we will know a little more about their culture and traditions!!!

Teenagers in England do much the same as kids in America or other European countries do. They enjoy chatting to and texting friends on their mobiles, hanging out with their mates, listening to the latest music on their MP3 players, shopping for the latest fashions or just watching movies on the television or at the cinema (movie house).

In my free time I swim, go into town, text my mates, do household stuff with my mum and dad, go on the internet, watch TV and play on my Playstation and Gamegear!
I listen to music all the time! I have a mp3 and a CD player. In Britain, most youths listen to punk, garage, house, rock, pop and R&B. (such as Busted, McFly, JLo, Xtina, Beyonce, Pink, Britney, Justin Timberlake, Mis-teeq) .

Origins .

The European Day of Languages was first celebrated during the European Year of Languages, 2001. The European Year of Languages was successful in involving millions of people across 45 countries in activities to celebrate linguistic diversity and the benefits of being able to speak another language.

At the end of the Year, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to declare a European Day of Languages to be celebrated on 26th September each year.

Aims.

The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are to:

1.Alert the public to the importance of language learning and diversifying the range of languages learnt in order to increase plurilingualism and intercultural understanding.
2.Promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe.
3.Encourage lifelong language learning in and out of school.

SICKNESS:No excuse. We will no longer accept your doctor's statement as proof. We believe that if you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to come to work.

AN OPERATION:We are no longer allowing this practice. We wish to discourage any thoughts that you may need an operation. We believe that as long as you are an employee here, you will need all of whatever you have and should not consider having anything removed. We hired you as you are and to have anything removed would certainly make you less than we bargained for.

DEATH:Other than your own:This is no excuse for missing work. There is nothing you can do for them, and we are sure that someone else can attend to the arrangements.However, if the funeral can be held in the late afternoon, we will be glad to allow you to work through your lunch hour and subsequently let you leave 1 hour early, provided your share of the work is ahead enough to keep the job going in your absence.

DEATH (YOUR OWN):This will be accepted as an excuse. However, we require at least two weeks notice as we feel it is your duty to train your replacement.

ALSO:Entirely too much time is being spent in the rest room. In the future, we will follow the practice of going in alphabetical order. For instance, those whose names begin with "A" will go from 8:00-8:15, and so on. If you're unableto go at your time, it will be necessary to wait until the next day when your time comes again.

A webquest is like a quiz on the internet. Students have to go to one or various sites to try to answer a range of questions. In this webquest about McDonalds, they visit the pages of the company official website to find information about its history.
I find this activity very motivating, since it is an authentic way of using English as a vehicle for communication.
